About Our Founder

MIL’s Founder and CEO, Michael A. Mertz, has been an expat for 26+ years living between Thailand and Panama.

He is a highly experienced Certified Public Accountant (CPA), MBA, and a tax specialist known for his expertise in US overseas taxpayer and finance laws.

He has a solid corporate background including in positions at industry titans Ernst & Young and Price Waterhouse for 5+ years, 17+ years specialization in expat tax, 26+ years of experience living abroad in over 16+ countries, and proficiency in navigating diverse tax and business regulations throughout Asia, Russia, and Europe.

Mike also served as CFO of the Remote Site Division of Sodexo, the €14B-valuated company, as CFO for a construction company under contract with the US military at various locations throughout Afghanistan, and as Financial Controller for the $600M-valuated Russian company behind Stoli Vodka.

An advocate for the freedom and fulfillment expat life can offer, Mike isn't all about work and taxes.
